Sofia Coppola’s movie version of Marie Antoinette is one of my favorite all time movies. It has everything my little heart could desire. Fountains of champagne, fun bright colors and handmade fabrics, never ending French pastries and parties for days! So when I was asked to participate in the ILEA Hampton Roads Knife & Fork Tabletop Competition I said “Let them eat cake!”
It was so interesting to see how everyone at this competition interpreted the movie they chose to base their designs on. I wanted to created a Marie Antoinette table design that looked like it came from the movie. One that the characters would sit down at and sip the champagne. As I thought about my design I took inspiration from a specific scene in the movie. I call it the “I want candy” scene. You can watch it below and let me know how I did!
The designs I did for the paper items are fun and modern, based on that scene and use elements from the movie’s logo. Marie’s wig is featured on the place cards and the rock candy in the glasses pretty much says how I feel 99% of the time. (all the candy, all the time please!) The place settings are for her husband, King Louis, her two favorite court ladies, Madame de Polignac and Madame de Lamballe and her lover from the movie, Count Axel Fersen!
Lustre Theory was thrilled to partner with Bloominous Wedding Flowers out of CA. They provided all the flowers for our tables from their Kaleidoscope Collection. We used these gorgeous blooms to create the designs you see on the table. The center hoop we made and then filled in with florals using chicken wire and oasis.
